Natural Disasters

Natural Disaster is considered as the, event of nature that takes human
lives or destroys property, such as
- Dangerous weather conditions
- Floods
- Earthquakes
- Fires
- Lack of rain
- Volcanic eruption
- Outbreaks of disease
These natural disasters results in Homelessness, Famine, Loss of lives etc
Africa is a highly disaster-prone continent; the territory is exposed to
different types of natural hazards. The most dangerous, in terms of
prevalence, recurrence and damage, are debris flows, flash floods,
landslides, rock falls, and avalanches, as well as glacial lake outburst
floods.
Barely a month passes without some part of Africa being afflicted by floods,
accidents, massive fires, droughts, or some other major disaster. Such
phenomena cause loss of life, directly or indirectly affect large sectors of
the population and wreak major economic damage.
The broad objective of GLOPEC in the management of natural disasters is to
reduce the vulnerability of the population and the economy to
hazardous processes. In this respect, five specific goals have been set:
-to provide timely
warning to the population where there is the threat of natural disasters
-To reduce and mitigate
human and material losses from natural disasters
-to establish a single
monitoring system to ensure the safety of the population
-to improve disaster
preparedness by training the population
-to improve preparedness
to provide rescue and deal with the consequences of disasters
