Maternal/Child Health
The health and well-being of mothers, infants, and young children are of
critical importance, both as reflections of the current health status of
individuals, local communities, and the nation as a whole and as predictors
of the health of the next generation. As recent child development research
has shown, the opportunities and challenges for promoting a child’s
long-term physical health and social and emotional growth are most
significant in the early years, from birth to five years of age, when access
to high-quality maternal and child health care services takes on special
importance, especially for Developing countries who live with the burdens of
poverty, racism, and social isolation.
About 7.1 million infants alone die each year. Moreover, out of this
number who died each year, about half die in the first 28 days after birth –
the neonatal period? Of these, 75% die in the first week after birth,
underscoring the critical importance of maternal health and care during
pregnancy and delivery on child survival.
Majority of these maternal and newborn deaths are preventable with
currently available technologies. Glopec has made and is continuing to make progress in improving the local
system of maternal and child health care. Glopec has model programs of
exceptional quality and professional staff and administrators who are
dedicated to serving all members of the community. Our main areas of concern
are:
- Birth Preparation
- Safe Delivery
- Preventing post-partum hemorrhage
- Treatment of complications
- Post-partum and newborn care
- Obstetric fistula
- Family planning
- Adolescent maternal health
